The Lake Tahoe Marathon has been an annual Lake Tahoe even for more than ten years. The first marathon event was organized in 1998 and has attracted many marathon runners from professionals to amateurs and to social runners who just want to experience the environment and see Lake Tahoe from a different point of view. The event is usually organized in late Septembers when the weather is starting to cool during the summer.
Each year hundreds of runners participated for the marathon. The event is divided into a few categories which runners can choose to join according to the distance they prefer. The categories include the Lake Tahoe Marathon, the 72 Mile Ultra, the 20 Mile Run, Half Run (10 mile distance), 10,000 mile, 5,000 mile, the Triple Mara as well as the infamous South Lake Tahoe Triathlon. These events are held in different times so that many of the runners can try to challenge or enjoy themselves in other events if they are up for it.Despite thinking that the Lake Tahoe marathons could be one of your ways to enjoy your Lake Tahoe holiday, you should really get in shape for the marathon simply because the further you run the more of Lake Tahoe beautiful settings you will unfold with your own eyes. The marathon will take you pass the granite Sierra Nevada Mountains, run at the hillside and witness the Lake Tahoe clear blue waters, and run on the race routes that passes through the alpine forests just beside the lake. The best part of participating in the events is that participants can choose how they would like to experience Lake Tahoe. Be it by running, walking, peddling or even swimming their way to the finish line. The Lake Tahoe marathon starts at Lake Tahoe City on the Common Beach where everyone can gather together and start the race at the same time. The running trail starts with a flat run for at least 9 miles and then changes into an uphill climb in the forest areas. To get to the top of the hill from hell, runners will have to run for almost 2 miles and climb uphill at the height of 520 feet. At the top of the hill, participants can enjoy the magnificent view of the Emerald Bay and Desolation Wilderness before continuing their run until they reach the finishing line.
During the marathon week, vacationers and marathon participants will be surrounded by lots of activities. Most of the runners will make this week as their acclimation week and survey the Lake Tahoe marathon trails as well as making last minute preparation to get in shape for the Lake Tahoe marathon run. If you would like to participate or witness the run, you are advised to book your accommodation in advance to avoid any inconvenience.
